Creative Resourcing, a specialist recruiter working within the manufacturing sector are currently seeking a Systems Design & Development Manager to work for one of our prestigious pharmaceutical clients.


As System Design & Development Manager you will manage the System Design and Development Team for the Steriles Device Team.

You will create an organisation routinely capable of invention, design, development and industrialising mechanical and electro-mechanical combination products and medical devices.

Develop standards, processes and procedures that ensure best practice is applied to both internal and externally run projects.Ensure project team members are educated in and compliant with the department SOPs.

The incumbent will be expected to manage one or more projects or part projects when team management commitment allows this meaning the introduction of all new Injectable Devices and other devices as required within GGR&D to ensure all device suppliers adhere to quality regulation and cGMP's and to control the acceptance and maintenance of Device documentation.

You will develop and introduce the appropriate technology required for the associated manufacturing processes and provide problem solving support to all relevant manufacturing processes.

You will provide effective resource (money, equipment and people) management of the Steriles Device Team resource to allow efficient resource allocation and to facilitate the recharge of resources to specific cost centres

You will support Global Sterile R&D device development activities and provide input into the Injectable Device Technology landscape for Steriles in Global R&D.

You will Support Injectable Device Design activities.

Pharmaceuticals Professional Device Network.

You will provide technical support to define and continuously improve

Business Development activities for injectable devices.

You will manage relationships with contract design houses, contract manufacturing companies and specialist test houses.

You will evaluate higher barrier value creation product opportunities to be added to further the sterile pipeline.

You will conduct due diligence activities in support of R&D and corporate business development.

The role is based in Runcorn but with regular international travel.

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Physics or similar.
  • Significant track record in management in Medical Devices or combination product development within the pharmaceutical field/R&D.
  • Post graduate education in Computing, Engineering, Product Development, Business, Manufacturing, Medical Device Regulations.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff.
  • In depth knowledge (through practical experience) of GMP, EU and FDA regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of consumer product designer from concept to commercialisation;
  • Knowledge of design for development and manufacture - functional and assembly.
  • Understanding of device development and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of device and drug/device combination regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of sterile product development (through experience).
  • Ability to work independently and a part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and challenge from a "first principles" basis.


Our client is offering a salary of up to £75,000 coupled with an excellent remuneration package.
